ON THE OCCASION OF THE WORLD PHILOSOPHY DAY 2019

"Philosophy thrives on the human need to understand the world around us and identify principles by which to guide our actions. This ancient need is no less compelling today. Nearly 3,000 years after philosophy first emerged in China, the Middle East and ancient Greece, the questions raised in the pursuit of wisdom throughout the ages have lost none of their relevance or universality; in fact, quite the opposite is true.

In an increasingly complex world – one in which uncertainty prevails, societal changes and technological revolutions scramble traditional reference points, and we face huge social and political challenges – philosophy remains a vital resource. It allows us to step back and slow down and it lights the way ahead."

2019 Dünya Felsefe Günü Mesajı

Felsefe, bizi çevreleyen dünyayı anlama ve eylemlerimize yön gösterecek ilkeler bulma insansal ihtiyacı temelinde gelişir. Bu eski ihtiyaç bugün de daha az zorlayıcı değildir. Felsefe Çin’de, Orta Doğu’da ve eski Yunanistan’da ilk ortaya çıkışından 3.000 yıl sonra da, yüzyıllar boyunca bilgeliğin peşinde ortaya atılan soruların öneminden ya da evrenselliğinden bir şey kaybetmedi; aslında tam tersi doğrudur.

Gitgide daha karmaşıklaşan bir dünyada  ̶ tahminlerin yürütülemediği, toplumsal değişikliklerin ve teknolojik ihtilâllerin geleneksel referans noktalarını sarstığı ve büyük toplumsal ve siyasal meydan okumalarla karşı karşıya geldiğimiz bir dünyada ̶  felsefe, hayatî bir çare olmaya devam ediyor. Geri adım atıp yavaşlamamızı mümkün kılıyor, önümüzdeki yolu aydınlatıyor.
